The trailing pack led by Lepe, Cisneros and Melendez were jockeying for position with Marist College's Lauren Harris & Kayla Shapiro
2nd place was then solidified by Daniel Nehnevaj whose stoic grace can lull you into a false sense of security.
Did Nick Christie have anything to worry about? So far, no, as Nick's lead was stretching to almost a minute by the end of the third lap.
We expected Corvera to be in the hunt, but seeing Allen still in the thick of it was suprising. The two were just behind Nehnevaj
Smith came by next leading Crawford on the 4th lap.
Crawford continued smoothly, showing his experience from three international teams, even though he is relatively young.
Gruttadauro trailed behind, was he just going out conservatively? He has both the speed and endurance to march through the field as the heat wilts the weaker walkers.

An one for Healey, who was already showing strains from the rising heat.
Anthony Peters also looked in a bit of distress. Given there was ~16km to go, with a rapidly rising sun, this did not bode well.
That is unless your name is Robyn Stevens who roughly maintained her pace, while the upstart Ewert could not and started to fade.
Still looking strong, hopefully Ewert would settle into a comfortable pace and keep Stevens in sight.
The race was still early and many in the trailing pack hoped to pick off those whose bodies couldn't cash the check their legs were trying to carry them to.
Carson Johnson was content to walk within his limits
