Leading the women Robyn Stevens and Taylor Ewert complete the first lap in 4:41, establishing early that this would be an aggressive race.
They were followed by Maria Michta-Coffey (Not shown in 4:43) and Miranda Melville (4:50)
Stephanie Casey was pacing by herself at 5:14.
Anali Cisneros and Celina Lepe lead a large pack in 5:37.
Stevens and Ewert looked comfortable building a lead and dropping the pace (4:33 for the 2nd km)
Most of the women looked relaxed and in control of their destiny.
The next section is going to be largely repetitious, but with the cool Simpson's backdrop I wanted to have a photo of most of the athletes going by it so they would have it for a memory, Doh! (See what I did there?)

Over halfway through the 3rd lap, Ewert pushed Stevens as they maintain their pace.
Michta-Coffey wasn't going to let the leaders have all the fun passing the guys as she maintained her pursuit of Olympic glory.
Melville puts the smack down on Olympian James and Pablo Gomez.
