MICHTA-COFFEY was bringing the intensity while MELVILLE was looking to be the first USA woman to double in the race walk at the World Championships!
CASEY was looking strong leading a pack of her own.
Less than 40 minutes into the race, GARCÍA LEÓN seemed to be testing the waters to see if she could break away from ZDZIEBŁO, but you'd never know it from her cool expression which rarely changed.
ZDZIEBŁO still looked solid, but showed slight signs that she was now in a race!
More of the pack.
MICHTA-COFFEY starts to break away from MELVILLE.
QIEYANG looked very comfortable. Given the relative newness of the 35km, maybe she was the wisest letting the leaders battle each other while she laid in wait.
More packs coming around the turn.
More pack walking.
MELVILLE dropping about 10 seconds back from MICHTA-COFFEY, the question was would CASEY (30 seconds back) sense this and move up on her teammate?
