Tom Dooley was an average high school and college runner when first introduced to race walking. An instant success, Dooley mastered the heel-toe form immediately and reached international competition within a year. His elite career spanned from 1966 to 1980 and amassed two 20K Olympic Teams, two Pan American Games—including a silver medal—and three World Cup Team berths.
Along the way, Dooley broke 11 National records at distances ranging from 1K to 25K.
Dooley, like many walking greats, continues to give back to the sport. He is the head walking coach for the Leukemia Society’s Team in Training program—a program that has coached more people to complete marathons than any other in the world.
