Luck and opportunity characterized Nick Christie's ascent into the ranks of USA race walking. As a student at Cuyamaca College in San Diego, California he was met with two time Olympian Tim Seaman. There Coach Tim Seaman converted him from a pole vaulter to a race walker. The transition proved easy enough as Nick was able to begin his training with race walk veterans Lauren Forgues, Miranda Melville, and Rachel Seaman. Surrounded by some of the best in the country, maturing both physically and mentally for the demands of the endurance event became a natural segment of each practice.
With less than a year of race walking to his name Nick would go onto qualify for the USA World Cup Team and take a surprise bronze medal finish at the 2012 Olympic Trials. Following a then vegetarian breaking salmon dinner with Tim Seaman and Jeff Salvage he left for Mexico to compete at the North American Central American Caribbean (NACAC) Under 23 Championships.
After a long first year he would head to the Midwest's Missouri Baptist University to compete under Coach Tish Hanna. There he would train with the rising USA athletes Alex Chavez and Molly Josephs. The group would go on to claim multiple collegiate titles while taking time each summer to promote race walking at the Junior Olympics. Competition at USA national events during his collegiate years proved fruitful as well, with top three finishes from the indoor 3000m all the way to the 50k on the road.
Finishing his final year of college Nick Christie will graduate with an Exercise Science degree and continue to prepare for his 2016 Road to Rio campaign.
