The start of the men's 10K race walk at the 2011 Penn Relays was a relatively crowded men's field compared to recent years. Topping the list of contenders was Dan Serianni fresh off competing for the USA at the Pan Am Cup. His main challenger was Josh Wieseman from Cederville University. As always there are three divisions with a Junior and Masters race being contended simultaneously. From the start we had a pack break away with Dan Serianni, Kris Shear, Richard Luettchau, Mike Mannozzi, and Josh Wiseman walking together stride for stride until just past two miles when Serianni broke away. Dan held as much a 7 second lead until the pack reeled him with just under 3 miles to go. At that point, the pack started to wilt with Wiseman and Serianni emerging into a battle for the watch. With two laps to go Dan pulled away and wasn't caught again. After the race Serianni christened the track with the first hurl of the day. An honor he was proud of, perhaps more proud of that than actually winning the race.
Bruno Carriere was never challenged in the junior race walking a PR of 47:57.
Dave Talcott not only won the Masters division, but qualified for the USATF Outdoor Nationals.
Under perfect conditions 13 men toed the starting line of the 117th Penn Relays for the 10K race walk
