As the 2nd 5K matured, the pace dropped from 23:18 to an amazing 21:27. Seems like Kaniskina was reading from the same playbook as teammate Borchin. Very quickly it appeared Kaniskina's move would be checkmate, but what of the rest of the field? At first Platzer looked to have control over 2nd leaving Kirdyapkina of Russia and Vasco of Spain to battle for 3rd. That said, Olive Loughnane wasn't about to relinquish anything as she took control over what was left of the pack.
