OK, I know I stated that the a 50K begins at 40K, but there were those in the race clearly not listening to me. Tallent and Adams had just a 2 second lead at 30K, but widened it to 23 seconds by 35K. For a while it looked like the Russians had no answer with Nizhegorodov unable to match their pace. Kirdyapkin, who won this race in Helsinki in 2005, effort was clearly visible contrasting the smooth and relaxed style of the Australians. Meanwhile, seemingly too far back to catch the leaders were Nymark and Garcia still gaining in rank.
