2006 Penn Relays - Women's 10km Photo Story

This year's Penn Relays women's race walk featured one of the largest women's fields we ever had for the Penn Relays' race walk. We were very pleased to see the race go off smoothly with all but one junior and one open athlete meeting the standard. This bodes very well for our sport that could use an influx on young athletes. However, it also means that next year the standards will become harder as we typically do not like having more than 25 walkers at the starting line. Hats off to Ed Gawinksi for organizing all the volunteers.

Early in the race, Rachel Lavallee and Maria Michta battled it out, but Rachel pulled ahead and held it, smoothly walking to a 23:22 and the reward of a Penn Relays watch. In the very crowded junior field, Heather Buletti spring boarded from her excellent performance and the World Cup Trials and captured the junior title. In the Master's race, our sole competitor, Sheri Stager walked an excellent time of 29:01. In general, due to the fast standard for Masters athletes there are few competitors in the division at the Penn Relays Race Walk. This is due to the limitted time we have on the track.
