2000 USA Race Walking Olympic Trials Photo Story
The 1st Men's 20K Olympic Trails of the new Millenium went off without a hitch at 8:00 AM on July 22, 2000. A field of 12 walkers braved the rising temperatures of Sacramento for a birth on the 2000 Olympic Team and a trip "Down Under." The day started with the temperatures a bit higher than the pleasant temperatures of the women's race a week earlier. With no American in the race with the "A" standard, the top walker with the B standard from the Trails makes the team. Only Tim Seaman and Jonathan Matthews had the standard going into todays trails. If the winner of the Trails does not have the "B" standard then the highest finisher with the "B" standard will go. However, there is a few week period where a walker can try to set the "A" or "B" standard, which will change the potential outcome of today's race.
