How to Officiate Race Walking - Evaluations and Exams

This is a self test to see if you can correctly identify whether a race walker is legal, deserving of a yellow paddle (caution) or a red card as well as whether you can determine if the call should be for bent knee or loss of contact. You are free to use this video for any non-commercial use in it’s current form. You may not download, edit or alter the video without express written consent from Jeff Salvage.

These are the answers to the previous self-test on how to judge race walking.

See if you understand how to fill out a Tally Sheet by taking this self test. Here is a blank tally sheet and red card (print multiple) you can fill out in order to take the test.

This is a video designed to be a test for race walking officials. Use this Google form to test yourself. The original video was created at a very high frame rate so that participants could see the race walkers feet more clearly, with less motion blur and artifacts. Unfortunately, YouTube and likely your equipment will not output videos at that frame rate. Therefore, taking this test this way works for the obvious cases of loss of contact and bent knee, but may prove challenging on the more subtle questions.
