Correcting Improper Swing Foot Carriage When Race Walking

A very common problem for race walkers is excessive rotation of the swing foot as it travels forward after push off. It can be caused by a wide variety of muscle imbalances, tightness in many areas, or both. It is most likely to be a weakness or tightness in the hip abductor, hip flexor, quadriceps, hamstrings, or anterior of your shins. A coach can best assess the exact cause and can recommend the specific exercise to correct it.
