Warming Up

Hamstring muscles are tough to stretch.  This exercise is a great way to warm them before a training walk.

 Steps:

  1. Standing straight up, place one extended leg six inches in front of your body with toes pointed up.

  2. Bend over slowly and, without bending the knee of your extended leg, reach to touch your toes (Figure A).

  3. If you are flexible, try reaching beyond your toes (Figure B). To relieve the stress on your back, make sure your buttocks are behind your rear foot when touching your toes (Figure C).
