As with every race, there are many victories, not just the gold. Cruising to second is Hang Yin in 4:08:58. Bronze went to Shuqing Yang (4:20:49) and while not a medalist Katie Burnett finished with by smashing her American record in 4:21:51. Sadly, Da Rosa and Randall were not allowed to finish.

Let’s hope this is a start and not the end of the women’s 50km movement. We must be careful how we move forward and create win-win situations for all, not for a select few or one. We must recognize the risks of being too big of a thorn in a world that generally does not support race walking, while pushing for gender equality.
